Employment Support for People with a Disability – WorkAbility

Having mental health struggles or a disability doesn’t mean you can’t find work. We work with people who have mental health challenges and/or disabilities to find training, education and/or a job that works for you.

We work with you at your speed to find work, study, learn new skills, or volunteering. We support you to take the right steps for your future.

What we do:

  • Find your personal interests and skills
  • Build your confidence through 1;1 mentoring and small group training
  • Explore your options
  • Make plans to work towards your goals and overcome any challenges
  • Support you with applying for suitable education and training
  • Find paid employment, volunteering and social opportunities in your community
  • Find job sampling opportunities where you can experience different workplaces and tasks
  • Help with your CV preparation, job applications and interview skills

What you get:

  • Help you to speak up for yourself going forward
  • Someone to help you talk to employers
  • Earn money at work

WorkAbility helps people going through emotional, psychological and mental health challenges and/or disabilities with the next steps in your life. You don’t need to have a diagnosis to get support. You do however need to be:

  • Motivated and willing to work
  • Able to work minimum of 8 hours per week 
  • Able to travel independently to and from work

Social Nights

We also have regular Social Nights which are organised based on your ideas. Some previous Social Nights have included trips to Bord Gais Theatre, Rock & Roll Museum, Clockwork Door, Rainforest Golf, and the cinema.

Garden Allotment

Our WorkAbility Programme have a plot in the Bluebell Allotments. Clients are invited once a week to come along and help out, this involves a bit of everything from Growing, Weeding, Digging, Watering. All abilities welcome, nice opportunity to socialise with others.

Supports for Employers

We strongly encourage you to consider hiring someone who has a disability and/or mental health challenge. Ireland is the lowest ranked country in the EU for employing people with a disability. Just 23% of our disability population are currently employed.

Liffey Partnership has a team dedicated to improving this statistic and making it financially viable for you. We pride ourselves on having built strong relationships with employers and supporting them to access any available supports to improve employment prospects for people with disabilities. Reasonable Accommodation Grant

The Reasonable Accommodation Fund provides financial support for people with disabilities (both jobseekers and existing employees) and their employers which include:

To get this funding a qualified person must be employed or starting a job in the private sector.

Wage Subsidy Scheme

The Wage Subsidy Scheme gives financial incentives to private sector employers to employ people with a disability. The work offered must be for a minimum of 21 hours per week and the subsidy is available up to 39 hours per week.

An employee with a disability on the scheme has the same conditions of employment as other employees. The base wage subsidy paid to private sector employers who employ people with a disability is €6.30 per hour.
