Employing People with a Disability or Mental Health Challenge
We strongly encourage you to consider hiring someone who has a disability and/or mental health challenge. Ireland is the lowest ranked country in the EU for employing people with a disability. Just 23% of our disability population are currently employed.
Liffey Partnership has a team dedicated to improving this statistic and making it financially viable for you. We support employers with funding applications for hiring someone from the disability population. Feel free to explore the financial supports available below.
Reasonable Accommodation Grant
The Reasonable Accommodation Fund provides financial support for people with disabilities (both jobseekers and existing employees) and their employers which include:
- Personal Reader Grant
- Job Interview Interpreter Grant
- Workplace Equipment Adaptation Grant
- Employee Retention Grant
To get this funding a qualified person must be employed or starting a job in the private sector.
Wage Subsidy Scheme
The Wage Subsidy Scheme gives financial incentives to private sector employers to employ people with a disability. The work offered must be for a minimum of 21 hours per week and the subsidy is available up to 39 hours per week.
An employee with a disability on the scheme has the same conditions of employment as other employees. The base wage subsidy paid to private sector employers who employ people with a disability is €6.30 per hour.
