What We Do

Tackling Food Insecurity

Addressing Food Poverty In Dublin 10 Triona O'Sullivan

Our research shows that 2 in 5 people (43%) in our community are struggling to get enough food. This is what is called “food insecurity.” That number is 5 times higher than the Irish national average of 9%.

Why is this happening?

Money problems are a big reason, but many people face other challenges, like:

  • Supermarkets being too far away.
  • No car or a disability making it hard to travel.

Barriers such as these make it tough for some people to afford and access healthy food.

How are we tackling food insecurity?

Our Community Food & Nutrition Worker is on the ground, working with local residents and other organisations. Their goal is to:

  • Make healthy food more available in the area.
  • Find solutions to food insecurity that work for this community.
  • Take a community-wide approach to tackling food insecurity
  • Deliver programmes such as Healthy Food Made Easy to help people understand healthier food choices.
